Things to do

Your stay at Arapawa Homestead offers the opportunity to enjoy some of the wildlife that abounds on the island. There are a multitude of native birds to be seen while you walk around the bay and playful dolphins can be seen from the beach or boat. And if you love the sea, the fishing from either the wharf or boat is unbeatable and diving in the area is awesome. Sea kayaking is a very popular activity in the Marlborough Sounds and there are three kayaks available for use by our guests.

For the adventurous - and the reasonably fit - the island's terrain is perfect for hiking or mountain biking, and keen walkers and cyclists are rewarded with amazing views of our farm.

We have a 4 wheeler side-by-side for hire ($80) according to availability. 4G Vodafone is available from all accommodations. It's primary is only for transport from the wharf to the accommodation. Not for use around the property, so safety reasons. Also a big attraction for kids and adults alike are our eels that live in the creek by the main house. They love to be fed fish or anything disposable. There are over 20 eels. Not to be eaten or caught though. Also, if you feel like exploring, you can take the walk to the Whaling Station, which is very close by. We can also arrange a visit to our very own Paua farm (small charge applies).

The Marlborough region offers a wide range of activities, including:

Bush Walks, Water Skiing, Sea Kayaking, Sailing, Rambling & Hiking, Bird Watching, Winery & Garden Tours, Horse Riding, Sea Fishing, Dolphin watching and Sightseeing.

We can organise fishing charters for you at different times of the year, weather permitting. We can also advise you on other local activities including wine trails to Marlborough's world-famous wine region, art and craft tours and even whale watching at Kaikoura.
