Arapawa Homestead is surrounded by stunning scenery and panoramic vistas of Cook Strait, Tory Channel and the heads at the gateway to the Marlborough Sounds and there is much to explore around our rugged island farm. We know you'll fall in love with our corner of paradise. But don't just take our word for it, take a look at what some of our guests have to say.

We had a blast! How amazing to see your family living your dreams!
An amazing adventure for us, a real highlight, we will never forget this experience sharing your life if only for a short moment. Please know we welcome you and your family with all our hearts and open arms no matter what year!!!! Blessings over your beautiful family,
Karen Dakin and all the Dakins

We were so sad to leave the Island.
Woke this morning all feeling a bit sad, no birds no ferries and no James. Just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your beautiful home with us, it's changed all of us in a small way but especially our twins. You have the most beautiful, caring and friendly children and you should be so proud of them. They pushed Liam and Sophie way out of their comfort zone (especially Soph) and thats so important to do. We will definitely be back, our other 2 children need to experience what we have. Liam wants to come back next Christmas so I will have to discuss dates with you. Sorry we did not really get a chance to talk to you and Mike either, your life sounds so interesting compared to ours. Again, thank you will keep in touch probably through our children,( I hear Jacob and Sophie are friends on facebook) take care and continue your amazing life with you beautiful family.
Cheers Michelle and family

What busy people you are – no wonder the skipper that day sang your praises.
Hello Antonia and Mike – on 25 February this year, we were on the mail cruise and called in to deliver your mail. You graciously gave the skipper a box of pears which was shared amongst the passengers that day. Just wanted to say thank you for your kind gesture and how much we enjoyed them. It was a sort of historic day as when we visited Ships’ Cover later that day, on the plaque was evidence that Cook departed that area on the same date a ‘number’ of years ago as is shown in our photo! All the cruise passengers oohed and aahed at the coincidence!

We are now back home from our NZ holiday and I went to the web to see if I could email you rather than snail mail to say thanks very much for your generosity and was amazed to read such a blog about your homestead. What busy people you are – no wonder the skipper that day sang your praises. I felt right at home looking at the photos of Gunyah with the oak dressers and that white vase. Here’s hoping you get lots of nice mail in your mail sack. All the best to you and your family.
Kind regards.
John and Bev Lardner

Our trip is one I will never forget
Kayaking out from Waikawa Bay we arrived at Gunyah homestead to find the most amazing tranquil view of the entrance to Tory Channel. The view from the deck was truly stunning, one of the most breath-taking sights I will never forget! I could honestly sit there all day and watch the tide come in and go out again. But no time for that as there was much to explore on the island. The walk over to the Whaling Station took us back in time. It reminded us of how hard life must have been on the island.
The other beautiful walk around the Radon's farm is spectacular with views over to Ships Cove and beyond.
The Radon's hospitality was endless. Nothing was too much trouble, the entire family are so welcoming. Their skills of living off the land makes me feel rather useless as a mother as my children can't carve up cattle, round up sheep or spearfish butter fish. I admire the way they live their lives.
"Overall our trip is one I will never forget and we will definitely return to the house on the hill with its mind blowing views. It is truly the best view in the entire Marlborough Sounds. I challenge anybody who disagrees with that!!

The views are unsurpassed!
Our annual visit to”Gunya” is the highlight of the year. The splendid isolation, charming accommodation, and the activities available in and around the property never fail to amaze us. And the views are unsurpassed! Best attraction of all however are the owners, the Radon family, who go to great lengths to look after us, and with their expertise in farming, fishing, and tourism, one wants for nothing.  Gunya deserves to be world famous!
