Boat or water taxi only access to the island ensures your peace and privacy for those who wish
to get away from it all. It takes approximately 50 minutes by private charter.
You can also book the The Mail Boat Cruise from Picton which arrives twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, leaving Picton around 1.30pm. The leisurely trip to Arapawa takes appromimately 1.5 hours, and on the return trip travels via Ship Cove with the journey taking approximately 3 hours.
Boat owners coming to Whekenui Bay would launch at Waikawa Marina. Out Queen Charlotte sounds, turn right at Tory
Channel. Travel approx 10ks almost to the entrance to Cook Strait. Our wharf is located to the left of the leading
lights, on left side of channel going out.For those without boats there are a number of ways to reach Whekenui Bay. If you are coming to us from Picton you
can either take a trip on the mail boat or there are water taxis available. For a quick trip from Wellington, indulge
in a short Helicopter ride.
Water taxi tours from Whekenui Bay to the outer Marlborough Sounds can be arranged. Dinghy and boat mooring is included
in the tariff.
Our remote and peaceful location is one of our main drawcards. It is not only a holiday destination, it is also
our family home, so we ensure safety measures are always readily available. We have a defibrillator in the bay (and
training on how to use it), and can have a rescue helicopter here in 15 minutes if it is needed.
Mobile Phone Coverage
Although we are a long way from 'civilisation', we do have Vodafone coverage, in fact we have a Vodafone tower
on our property!
Vehicle Storage If you have a car you wish to leave in Picton,
Marlborough Sounds Storage provide both short and long term vehicle and boat storage. Alternatively, there are unsecured car parks available close to the ferry terminal and also on Wellington St in Picton.
Public Car Park, Picton Wharf There are car parks available by the water taxi office charged at a daily rate.
