Boat or water taxi only access to the island ensures your peace and privacy for those who wish to get away from it all. It takes approximately 35 minutes by private charter. The mail boat from Picton arrives twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, leaving Picton around 1pm the leisurely trip takes between 1-3 hours.

Boat owners coming to Whekenui Bay would launch at Waikawa Marina. Out Queen Charlotte sounds, turn right at Tory Channel. Travel approx 10ks almost to the entrance to Cook Strait. Our wharf is located to the left of the leading lights, on left side of channel going out.

For those without boats there are a number of ways to reach Whekenui Bay. If you are coming to us from Picton you can either take a trip on the mail boat or there are water taxis available. For a quick trip from Wellington, indulge in a short Helicopter ride.

Water taxi tours from Whekenui Bay to the outer Marlborough Sounds can be arranged. Dinghy and boat mooring is included in the tariff.

Emergency Services
Our remote and peaceful location is one of our main draw cards. It is not only a holiday destination, it is also our family home, so we ensure safety measures are always readily available. We have a defibrillator in the bay (and training on how to use it), and can have a rescue helicopter here in 15 minutes if it is needed.
