At Arapawa, there are three accommodation options to match your particular needs whether
it be for a family holiday, a romantic getaway or a group reunion, Arapawa is a piece of
paradise you will never forget.
The Arapawa homestead, or "Gunyah" as it is also known, is the original house
built in 1945 by Joe and Patty Perano as their retirement home. "Gunyah" is a
place of tranquillity, peace and beauty. Tastefully decorated, the homestead is a fully
equipped, private and cosy home-away-from-home.
The special, cosy cottage known as the School Cottage, is located on
the grassy flats at Whekenui Bay, Tory Channel. The cottage is open plan living style with
separate shower and toilet facilities.
For larger groups either booked on its own or additional to the school cottage, the
Teachers's Hut is also available.
Use the subnavigation menu on the left to see photos and find out more about the
accommodation.
Supplies
You can order your groceries from the Island. It's such a great way to get your shopping
done. At Arapawa we use this service all the time. There are two supermarkets we order
through.
Blenheim Main Street New World is great. They can be contacted by phone
on 03 520 9030, by fax on 03 520 9080 or by email blenheim@newworld-si.co.nz. New World uses
Mark Jackson to courier the groceries to the mail boat in Picton. This courier service can
be charged to your grocery account. Mark charges $4.00 a box or if there are 2 or more
boxes up to 4 it is $6.36 + GST.
Also if you need anything else Mark Jackson is a recommended courier as
I use him all the time. Just tell him to put it on the mail boat and send it to Whekenui
Bay. His contact number is 021 474 104.
Orders need to be placed and ready for pick up by 8am on the day of
mail boat delivery so we usually suggest placing the order the day before pick up is due
e.g. Monday afternoon if the mail boat is coming out on Tuesday. New World simply charges
it to your credit card.
The other supermarket is Picton Supervalue. You will need to place your
order by 12 noon the day before mail boat delivery day. You can contact them by phone on
03 573 6463, fax 03 573 6488 or email pictonsvp@xtra.co.nz.
You will also need a credit card if you do not have an account set up.
The mailboat then charges $3.00 a box to your grocery invoice to
receive at Whekenui.
